It's all about blasting and painting (as you say).
Use plain paper for the preparation of the MDF ... 180 grains. Then, (with a manual of good quality as Kilz). Let dry and sand with 150 grains. Then again first. Sand again, but with 180 grains. Then paint with a flat or matte finish. Sand with 150 grains. A new paint and sand with 180th Paint and then sand with 220 +.
