Because lipomas are usually no bigger than a golf ball. They are benign, so unless the lipoma is in an area that causes pain, it is best left alone. Lipomas usually do not grow beyond a certain point. If the masses continue to grow, not a lipoma. And, because the lipomas are usually in older dogs, surgery is considered for removal as a cosmetic and unnecessary (unless, as I said, in an area that is causing discomfort). And the claim is not very practical. This makes the dog uncomfortable.
